WhatsApp’s Latest Development: Message Search by Date

WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta, continues to enhance user experience through the introduction of various new features. Recent updates to the messaging app include emoji reactions for messages, surveys, cross-platform chat transfers between iOS and Android, and the ability to mute specific participants during voice calls.

The Revival of a Feature: Searching Messages by Date

As reported by WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp is revisiting the concept of allowing users to search messages by date. Although the feature was initially spotted in 2020, it was temporarily shelved. However, with the recent release of WhatsApp beta for iOS version 22.0.19.73 on TestFlight, the company is preparing to reintroduce this functionality.

Understanding the Functionality

The search message by date feature, currently in development, will enable users to locate messages within a conversation based on specific dates. Upon searching for a message, users will notice a new calendar icon, which they can utilize to navigate to a particular date and view messages exchanged on that day. To exit the date view, users can simply scroll through the conversation.

Practical Applications

This feature is anticipated to be particularly useful for users seeking to reference messages exchanged on specific dates, streamlining the process of retrieving relevant information from past conversations.

Additional Developments on the Horizon

In addition to the message search by date feature, WhatsApp is also working on other enhancements. These include the ability to send messages to oneself via the desktop version of the application, as well as the introduction of a survey feature. The survey feature will enable users to provide feedback on new products, services, and more upon receiving invitations.

Anticipating Availability

While the exact rollout timeline for these features remains uncertain, they are expected to be made available for testing in the beta version of WhatsApp in the near future. As WhatsApp continues to evolve its feature set, users can look forward to a more seamless and enriched messaging experience.
