Crafting an Oriental Oasis: TEA WELL Store by Ruhaus Studio

Embracing Tradition and Innovation

The TEA WELL Store, envisioned by Ruhaus Studio, stands as a testament to the fusion of traditional Oriental aesthetics with contemporary design sensibilities. Located in Shenzhen, China, this 230 square meter space embodies the essence of pure tea and Oriental lifestyle aesthetics. Lead architects Dandan Zhu and Yiru Wang embarked on a journey to create an innovative retail experience that celebrates the beauty of time-honored traditions while embracing modernity.

A Journey Through Space and Time

At its core, TEA WELL is a celebration of time – a concept deeply ingrained in Chinese culture. Ruhaus Studio’s design for the fifth TEA WELL store aims to capture this essence by seamlessly blending ancient aesthetics with modern functionality. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese painting and the Eastern approach to observing nature, the space invites visitors on a journey of exploration and discovery.

Harmonizing with the Surroundings

Situated within the bustling COASTAL CITY, the TEA WELL store takes a restrained approach to its design, seamlessly integrating with its vibrant surroundings. The double eave design not only filters the abundant sunlight but also frames the surrounding landscape, offering a sense of transcendence to visitors. Inside, a raised seating area provides an intimate space for guests to immerse themselves in the serene atmosphere.

Simplicity in Design

Echoing the honesty of brushstrokes in traditional painting, Ruhaus Studio adopts a minimalist approach to spatial design. The bar counter, a focal point of the space, is meticulously crafted to minimize visual distractions, ensuring a clean and tidy appearance. Bold color accents and natural textures, such as weathered wood and black cobblestones, enhance the space’s sense of relaxation and tranquility.

Layers of Texture and Meaning

Through careful selection of materials and textures, the TEA WELL store achieves a harmonious balance between purity and intrigue. Grooved walls, cotton and linen cushions, and natural wood floorboards create a layered ambiance reminiscent of Chinese ink paintings. A large tea table and suspended lantern-inspired lamps add a touch of ceremony and elegance to the space.

Courtyard Oasis

The outdoor courtyard, inspired by the leisurely gatherings of ancient scholars, offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Oversized benches, Zen-inspired landscapes, and lush greenery create a tranquil setting for guests to enjoy tea and conversation in harmony with nature.

In essence, the TEA WELL Store by Ruhaus Studio is more than just a retail space – it’s a sanctuary where tradition meets innovation, inviting visitors to savor the beauty of Oriental aesthetics and the art of tea appreciation.
