UltraTech Cement has announced a significant investment of Rs 13,000 crore to enhance its production capacity by 21.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in the third phase of its growth strategy. This investment will elevate its total capacity to 182 MTPA upon completion.

Expansion Details

The board of the Aditya Birla Group’s flagship firm has approved this third phase of growth, which involves an investment of Rs 13,000 crore. This investment will primarily focus on increasing the capacity by 21.9 MTPA through a combination of brownfield and greenfield projects, as outlined in the company’s statement.

UltraTech currently possesses an existing capacity of 132.45 MTPA of domestic grey cement. Upon the completion of this expansion phase, the company will bolster its presence across various regions in India:

  • 35.5 MTPA in the south
  • 40.4 MTPA in the east
  • 36.2 MTPA in the north
  • 35.7 MTPA in the central region
  • 33.8 MTPA in the west

This expansion plan entails the establishment of 4 greenfield plants, 4 brownfield plants, and 4 greenfield bulk terminals.

Project Timeline and Impact

Commercial production from these new capacities is anticipated to commence in a phased manner starting from the financial year 2026. Once operational, these expansions will elevate UltraTech’s cement capacity to 187 MTPA on a global scale.

Chairman’s Perspective

Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, expressed his views on this strategic investment, highlighting UltraTech’s unwavering commitment to India’s growth trajectory. He emphasized that UltraTech has strategically invested over Rs 50,000 crore in the past seven years to support India’s evolving infrastructure needs. This fresh commitment of Rs 13,000 crore reaffirms UltraTech’s confidence in India’s economic potential and its role in fueling critical sectors such as housing and infrastructure development.

UltraTech Cement holds the distinction of being the third-largest cement producer globally, excluding China, with a consolidated grey cement capacity of 137.85 MTPA.
